The new hire on a Friday
Training is one sentence: when the screen turns copper, ask for ID. The register shows the date to compare against, so nobody has to count back the years.

What the cashier sees when an age-restricted item is scanned. The prompt, the age and the categories are settings you control.
An age check prompt is a screen the register shows when an age-restricted product is scanned. It blocks the sale until the cashier verifies the customer's age from an ID, either by scanning the licence barcode or typing the date of birth, and it records the outcome.
Without it, the check depends on a tired cashier remembering at 10 p.m. on a Saturday. With it, the register does the remembering, shows the exact cut-off date so nobody does mental arithmetic, and keeps a log you can show an inspector or your own managers.
At the counter
Four moments, about five seconds with a scanner. Click a stage to see what the cashier sees.
Spirits, wine, beer, hard seltzer, or any category you flag. The flag lives on the category, so every new product in it is covered automatically.
A full-width prompt shows the cut-off birth date for today (born on or before…) for age 21. The sale cannot continue until the cashier answers it.
With a 2D barcode scanner that reads the PDF417 code on US licences, the date fills itself. Without one, the cashier types the date of birth from the card.
Approved sales carry on as normal. A refusal is recorded with the time, register and staff member, so you can show your team checks IDs.

Licensing authorities run checks with under-age buyers. A cashier who follows the prompt asks for ID every time, and the log shows the check happened.
Orders with restricted items are flagged on the pickup screen. Staff check the ID of the person collecting before handing it over.
The setting lives on the category, shared by every store on your account. Open a new store and it starts with the same checks on day one.
Filter the log by store and cashier: how many checks, how many refusals, any overrides and who approved them.

FAQ
You flag the categories that are age-restricted. When an item from one of them is scanned, the register stops and shows the cut-off date for the legal age (21 in the US). The cashier scans the ID or enters the birth date, then approves or refuses the sale. Nothing restricted can be sold while the prompt is unanswered.
It works with 2D barcode scanners that read the PDF417 barcode on the back of US driver’s licences and state IDs, so the birth date fills in by itself. A plain 1D scanner still works for products; staff then type the date of birth.
The prompt is set per category. Most stores use one age for everything they sell. If your state or a product needs a different rule, put those products in their own category and set the prompt there.
Only what your settings ask for. By default the register records that the check was done, the outcome, the time, register and cashier, not a copy of the ID. Keep personal data to what your licence and local law require.
Not with the default role. You decide which roles may override the prompt (a manager PIN, for example), and every override is logged against that staff member.
Orders from your online store are marked as containing age-restricted items, and the pickup screen reminds staff to check ID at collection. Delivery of alcohol is regulated separately; only offer it where your licence allows.
No software can do that on its own. The prompt makes the right behaviour the default and leaves a record. Compliance still depends on your staff, your licence conditions and your state or emirate rules.
The same prompt works with the minimum age that applies to your licence. Many UAE outlets also check Emirates ID or a passport; staff type the date of birth from the document.
A scan with a 2D reader takes a few seconds. The prompt only appears once per sale, not once per bottle, so a basket of six restricted items asks one time.
Yes. The age-check log lists approvals, refusals and overrides by date, store, register and staff member, and exports to CSV.
Start the trial, flag your restricted categories and ring a test sale. It takes about ten minutes.
